The senior living industry is moving quickly from reacting to repositioning.

The providers most likely to succeed will be the ones that pair disciplined capital decisions with a clearer understanding of what the next resident is expecting.

For many senior living providers, it's time to evaluate business strategies and the needs of today's senior adults. Baby boomers are shaping facility demand, and they are paying attention to the physical setting, the service model, the programming mix and the overall experience of daily life in senior living environments.

As a result, many service providers are reevaluating portfolios, adjusting development plans, refining operations and rethinking what communities should offer residents who increasingly see senior living as a lifestyle choice rather than only a care decision. In practical terms, that means that design, location, amenities, staffing and technology all must work together to support contemporary residents' expectations.
