School District of Mondovi Breaks Ground

(Mondovi, Wis.) – The School District of Mondovi broke ground today on its first major renovation project in 19 years. District officials, staff, students, and representatives of Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. turned dirt on the $18 million project, approved by voters in November. Most of the renovation and expansion project, designed and managed by Hoffman, will be done this summer and next summer, with some work occurring during the 2019-2020 school year. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2020.

“It’s been great working with Hoffman. Their expertise in school design, renovations, and construction management has been on display throughout the planning process and we look forward to continuing to work with them over the next year and a half.”

Former Mondovi Superintendent

“We are so excited to get the referendum project underway,” said Greg Corning, Mondovi Superintendent. “It’s been great working with Hoffman. Their expertise in school design, renovations, and construction management has been on display throughout the planning process and we look forward to continuing to work with them over the next year and a half.”

The main school facility was built in Mondovi in 1937, with major additions in 1962, 1973, and 2000. Mondovi High School, Middle School, and Elementary School are located in the same building, which is currently just over 212,000 square feet. The project includes about 30,000 square feet of remodeling and 10,000 square feet of additions.

The overall project includes safety and security improvements; enhancing the District’s 21st century learning program and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) rooms; HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems upgrades; relocating and remodeling the District and Elementary, Middle, and High School offices; relocating the art departments; expanding the tech ed space; improvements to the school’s bus drop-off area, playgrounds, and multi-purpose room; and more.

The project also calls for relocating and remodeling the buffalo that sits atop the school.

The school district has been working closely with the Hoffman team, which holds a special connection to the district. Hoffman project manager, Sean Duncanson, is a 1984 graduate of Mondovi High School and will be managing the project.

“There’s a sense of pride and gratitude to be able to break ground and work on a project like this for my childhood school district,” Duncanson says. “I’m proud of my hometown and my school, and it feels good to be able to give back and make things better for future generations.”

CESA 10, located in Chippewa Falls, is serving as the District’s owner’s rep, while Menomonie-based Auth Consulting & Associates is handling the project’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering needs and Point of Beginnings in Stevens Point is responsible for all civil engineering aspects.
