School District of Manawa Breaks Ground

(Manawa, Wis.) – Several elementary school students were among those turning dirt this morning as a groundbreaking ceremony took place for the new parking lot and bus turnaround at Manawa Elementary School. The groundbreaking marks the start of several renovation and addition projects designed and managed by Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. that were part of the $12 million referendum approved by school district voters in November.

“The focus is on providing the best possible learning environment for the middle school students, whose needs are quite a bit different than high school students.”

“We are very excited to get this project underway and set the stage for the additions, remodeling, and renovations to come,” said Dr. Melanie Oppor, School District of Manawa District Administrator. “These critical projects will help us provide safe and efficient learning and gathering spaces for our students, staff, and community.”

The parking lot and bus turnaround projects were identified as a key need to improve safety for students and families during drop-off and pick-up times. Work on the parking lot and bus turnaround is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2019-20 school year.

Other projects at the elementary school include electrical, plumbing, and heating improvements, renovation of the playground area, remodeling of the early childhood and 4K classrooms, and replacement of roofing sections, the fire alarm system, doors, and flooring. In addition, groundbreaking will take place in August for the upcoming work at Little Wolf Jr./Sr. High School.

“An important part of that project is a reconfiguration to create a true middle school – serving grades sixth through eight – separated from the high school,” said Jody Andres, Hoffman K-12 Market Leader/Senior Project Architect. “The focus is on providing the best possible learning environment for the middle school students, whose needs are quite a bit different than high school students.”

Several additions are planned, and renovations will be done in many different parts of the existing building to improve safety, efficiency, and learning opportunities.
