Appleton YMCA Wellness Spaces Get Workout from Hoffman
(Appleton, Wis.) – The Downtown Appleton YMCA is getting an update with the help of Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc.
Hoffman assisted the YMCA in planning a renovation that will bring the YMCA of the Fox Cities corporate offices to its Downtown Appleton location on East Lawrence Street. In addition, renovations are taking place to create a personal training area that is separate from the Y’s common wellness spaces.
“The Hoffman team has been integral in providing design options to meet our needs."

YMCA of the Fox Cities Executive Director
“It’s great to be working with the YMCA, which has such a storied history of serving Appleton and the surrounding areas,” said Sam Statz, Hoffman’s president. “We’re excited to help them create spaces that will offer both staffing efficiencies as well as enhance member experiences.”
Statz adds, “Splitting out the personal training area will allow small group training sessions to have a dedicated space that won’t interfere with the general wellness spaces.”
The remodel of the wellness area includes 2,000 sq. ft. of space, combining an existing racquetball court and men’s fitness locker room to provide ample room for the Y’s personal training staff and equipment. Features include rubber and turf sport flooring, an industrial open ceiling system, and specialized equipment for individual or group performance training.
The office renovation portion consists of roughly 1,600 sq. ft. of offices, kitchen amenities, conference rooms, and storage areas. Once complete, the remodeled space will house the YMCA’s financial and IT staff.
“The Hoffman team has been integral in providing design options to meet our needs,” said Tom Wendt, executive director of the Appleton YMCA. “All involved have been supportive, flexible, and creative as we worked through the details of the renovation. We are excited for these new spaces for those at our YMCA and thankful to Hoffman for making it happen.”
Meanwhile, the YMCA of the Fox Cities is also working with Hoffman to replace the Soldiers Square parking ramp on S. Oneida St. The ramp was constructed by the city of Appleton in 1967 and acquired by the Y in 1996. Plans call for construction of a new 311-stall ramp at a cost of $6 million to $7 million. The timeline for the project calls for the existing ramp to be demolished in June with the new ramp ready for use in spring 2022.
