Scope: Renovation | Area: 120,000 sq ft | Completion Date: Summer 2026
Hoffman partnered with La Crosse County beginning in 2018 to evaluate the Hillview Health Care Center campus,
aligning facility needs with available funding and long-term operational goals. Budget clarity was a key driver in defining scope, ensuring each decision supported reinvestment strategy, program needs, and future operations. Hoffman ultimately provided integrated design and construction services and led the renovation.
The 120,000-square-foot project transforms an underutilized 118-bed skilled nursing facility into a right-sized, multi-use environment including 36 private SNF beds, a 39-bed CBRF, an Intergenerational Day Center, and a 10-unit apartment component. Delivering this work within an occupied facility required detailed phasing, close coordination with stakeholders, and constant communication to maintain resident care and daily operations.
The project also involved significant regulatory and technical complexity. Hoffman worked closely with state agencies to navigate licensing across multiple care types while coordinating extensive surveying and code analysis to enable compliant co-location of uses not typically permitted within a single structure. The result is a highly coordinated, cost-aligned solution that expands services, improves facility performance, and enhances the experience of residents, families, and staff—supporting long-term operational success.
"Hoffman did a great job in considering many of the different aspects of seniors in the design. Also the uniqueness of a remodel within your existing home."
