Sandy Slope Elementary School

Scope: New Construction | Completed September 2025

Continuing their decades-long relationship, the Appleton Area School District and Hoffman partnered on a District-wide facilities assessment to determine future needs and plan for an upcoming referendum.

Following the successful passing of the $129.8 million referendum in November of 2022, Hoffman provided design and construction services for many of the resulting projects, including the new $35 million, 96,000sf elementary school, Sandy Slope. The new elementary school, with capacity for 600+ students, has classrooms organized into grade-level “pods”, each representing a K-5 level, and standard classrooms surround a common “Extended Learning Center”.

"It's still hard to believe we're in such a beautiful school. Sometimes, I catch myself looking at the building in disbelief, grateful that I get to work in such a phenomenal space, one so thoughtfully designed for this generation of learners."

Joseph Bernhardt

Principal, Sandy Slope Elementary School

The school includes a dedicated two-class gymnasium with full-size basketball court, and a separate commons/cafeteria in the center of the building. The school was designed to fit into an environmentally sensitive site with wetlands while still incorporating a geothermal well field. The school building was fully enclosed in December of 2024 and opened in time for the start of the 2025-2026 school year.
