SENIOR LIVING

Lutheran Home

Scope: Expansion & Renovation | Area: 21,000 sq ft & 126,000 sq ft | Completion Date: April 2014

Lutheran Life Communities (LLC) is the parent organization to five senior living communities in the Midwest, including Lutheran Homes and Services for the Aged in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

LLC retained trusted development partner Hoffman to help position Lutheran Home to respond to ongoing trends and changing market demands. This involved transitioning from a medical model to a person-centered household care model. Renovations to meet current building codes were also required.

The Lutheran Home campus provides 392 licensed skilled and intermediate beds supporting long-term care residents and 100 units of assisted living. Hoffman repositioned the 252-bed skilled nursing facility’s Olson Pavilion. Built in the 1970s, Olson Pavilion is dealing with increasing repair and replacement costs due to the aging of its major building systems.

The master plan maintains the 240 beds in Olson Pavilion via a reconfigured and expanded footprint. The result provides 162 private rooms with private bath in the fully renovated Olson Pavilion and a new transitional care 78 resident room addition.

The renovation to Olson Pavilion organizes residents into person-centered households. The new addition connects to the existing Olson Center with a single-story addition to accommodate expanded resident wellness and therapy programming.
