OCTOBER 22nd, 2013
Hoffman project architect Julie Heiberger and senior project designer Catherine Cruickshank, along with Sr. Margaret Wick of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Family in Dubuque, presented a session at the Resource Center for Religious Institutes (RCRI) National Conference in Anaheim on October 24th. The three examined whether or not there is a psychological or physical advantage to living in an inviting, resident-centered environment compared to a sterile, medical-model nursing home.
The session, titled “The Facility as a Care Giver”, reviewed three case studies—the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Family in Dubuque (IA), the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato (MN), and Lutheran Homes of Oshkosh (WI). In sharing these stories, Julie, Catherine, and Sr. Margaret also discussed the theoretical underpinnings of the facilities’ designs.
This was the fifth time in the last six years that Hoffman was invited by RCRI to speak at their national conference.
