Topping Off Ceremony Held at Clintonville High School Recreation Center
(Clintonville, Wis.) – The Clintonville Public School District and Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. held a topping off ceremony today at the construction site on the District’s high school campus. A topping off ceremony, reminiscent of an old-fashion barn raising celebration, is traditionally held when the last beam is placed atop a structure during its construction. Today, the final beam was installed on the new fitness and weight room addition to the high school’s recreation center.
“This marks a significant milestone in the construction process,” explained Sean Duncanson, Hoffman project manager. “As is tradition, the beam included a small evergreen tree on one end and an American flag on the opposite end. In the steel trade, the tree signifies construction has reached the sky without loss of life or injury and is seen as a positive sign for all who will use the building.”
“This is a wonderful way to acknowledge the work that’s been done to date on the school, and a way to thank workers for what they’ve accomplished,” stated Troy Kuhn, Clintonville superintendent. “It’s exciting to see the progress that’s been made since we broke ground in June of this year.”
The addition to the high school’s recreation center is part of a $37 million referendum approved by voters in November 2020; the first referendum approved by school district voters in 20 years. The referendum projects also include adding a new middle school and agricultural-science building to the high school, remodeling existing tech ed and welding spaces and a new independent living classroom expansion. Those will be followed by renovation of the existing middle school into the district’s new 4K-5 elementary school. The projects at the high school are slated to be completed by fall 2022 with the renovation of the middle school scheduled for completion in fall 2023.
Hoffman has been providing planning and design services to the district for the past two years and is now serving as the project’s construction manager.
