Dubuque Sisters Receive Sustainability Honor

OCTOBER 5th, 2012

The Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Family in Dubuque, Iowa, have received the 2012 TPMg Award. The award recognizes organizations that have exemplified sustainability through thoughtful consideration in planning, designing, and constructing an environmentally friendly, high-performance, cost-effective, healthy facility.

In need a new facility that would provide a person-centered, homelike environment for their frail and infirm Sisters, the Sisters of St. Francis turned to Hoffman for the planning, design, and construction of Clare House, a 87,000 square foot skilled care facility. The three-level building has 38 bedrooms on both the main and upper floors. The primary entry on the main floor leads into the chapel, and the lower level contains a large kitchen, dining room, multi-purpose room, offices, and service areas.

Clare House, which opened in October of 2011 and saw additional project deconstruction phases continue through 2012, was selected for inclusion in Long-Term Living’s 2012 DESIGN | Environments for Aging special design showcase issue.
