Construction Begins on Grafton Schools’ Projects

(Grafton, Wis.) The Grafton School District broke ground today to signal the start of construction at Grafton High School and Kennedy and Woodview Elementary Schools. The renovation and expansion projects follow the approval of a $39.9 million building referendum in April.

“The district is very excited to see these projects get underway,” said Jeff Nelson, Grafton School Superintendent. “Through the entire planning and design process, we were focused on developing building solutions that would meet our students’ academic needs and ensure their continued safety, while also being fiscally responsible to the district’s taxpayers. I believe we’ve accomplished these goals.”

Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. has been working with the district since 2014 on the planning and design, and now will oversee the construction. “These projects address important needs at the three schools,” said Sam Statz, president of Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction. “In addition to enhancement of each school to accommodate more students and provide upgraded technology and athletic spaces, improvements in safety, security, and accessibility will also take place.”

The plans for the high school include:
• Upgraded athletic spaces (renovated training room, new gymnasium, new family locker rooms, and remodeled sports locker rooms)
• Additional classrooms
• Expansion of the auto shop
• Addition of a student commons
• Remodeled music and science rooms and labs

The project at Kennedy Elementary School includes:
• A two-story addition for grades 4 and 5
• New music and art rooms
• A new library/media center A new gymnasium
.
At Woodview Elementary, project plans include:
• An eight-classroom addition
• A new gymnasium
• New Early Childhood and 4K space
• A remodeled kitchen

Parking and driveway access will also be addressed at all three schools.

Construction at the high school is scheduled to be complete by January of 2019, while the projects at Kennedy and Woodview are expected to be completed for the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.
