Encouraging School Districts to Plan Ahead
Hoffman discusses ways planning provides resources and cost savings
during annual Wisconsin convention

(Appleton, WI) From increasing facility space needs to keeping up with advances in technology in the classroom, school districts throughout Wisconsin face new and growing educational demands each year. Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. will be offering ways districts can plan ahead for these issues during two sessions at the 2015 Wisconsin State Education Convention January 21-23 at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee.

In their first session on January 21 at 1:30 p.m., Hoffman will present Why Master Planning Can Be a District’s Best Friend, sharing the elements that go into master planning and how a plan can help a district become more proactive in their decision making. “Many districts jump into a facility project without considering the long-term impacts on district finances or other buildings,” said Jody Andres, session presenter and project architect at Hoffman. “Our goal is to share how master planning can help set districts on a more informed course of action and be better prepared to make cost-effective decisions.” Andres will be joined by fellow staff members Sam Statz, director of construction services, and Mark Boehlke, senior land planner/landscape architect.

Hoffman’s second session, The Impact of Educational Technology Trends on Your School, will be led by Andres as well as Dale Larson, director of instructional technology with the Appleton Area School District (AASD) on January 22 at 10:45 a.m. Andres and Larson will review how implementing a technology plan can impact facilities and infrastructure, and how planning can help districts get the most out of their technology dollars. “We’ll discuss ways to make a facility more tech friendly and share options that can help maximize budget dollars,” said Andres. In addition, presenters will share real world examples from recent technology projects at various AASD facilities and lessons learned along the way.

Hoffman has worked with more than 60 public school districts, private schools and charter schools throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois and is an industry leader in sustainable planning, design, and construction.

The Wisconsin State Education Convention brings together hundreds of school leaders each year to foster effective school board practices for student success through workshops and other education programs.
