Hello. I'm Amanda Saylor and I'm an interior designer at Hoffman.
Joining the firm after graduating from Purdue University, I was drawn
to Hoffman by their commitment to sustainable design and delivery.
But my passion for “green” goes beyond work, as I try to maintain a
very eco-friendly lifestyle. Here's a little bit about myself.
Overall, I consider myself a pretty active person. With a dual-purpose of working out and cutting
down on fuel costs and emissions, I like riding my bike when heading to the grocery store and running other errands. In addition, I always try to buy local produce and dairy products. And when I do shop, you’ll usually find me using my reusable, canvas bags—no plastic for me! When making purchases,
I prefer products with minimal packaging, a high level of recycled content, and are easy and efficient to recycle.
One of my favorite pastimes is reading, so when looking for my next good read I borrow a book from
a friend or head to a used book store. As for furniture and other household accessories, I visit a local consignment shop or antique sale for pre-used items at reduced cost. And when I am done with my own belongings, they become a donation to Goodwill or another local organization.
At home, my environment-friendly efforts include using fluorescent bulbs and green cleaners
(including laundry detergents), turning down the thermostat, shutting off lights when not using them, running the water at half pressure, and doing my banking and bill paying online (my way of cutting down on paper and stamps).
Most importantly, I enjoy sharing ideas with others about leading a sustainable lifestyle. In fact,
I’m very proud to be speaking at the first annual Living Green Wisconsin Expo, taking place
September 6 & 7 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It’s going to be an exciting event geared toward the education of and building awareness for sustainability.
